Artemiy SoloveyFOREVER CHEMICALS
They’re called "forever chemicals" for a reason. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) don’t break down, not in your body, not in the environment, not even after centuries. These toxic compounds are everywhere—from your nonstick pans to your waterproof mascara, from your fast-food packaging to your dental floss. Corporations knew about their dangers for decades, but instead of protecting the public, they did everything in their power to keep them in production.
These chemicals were originally developed in the mid-20th century to create nonstick, water-resistant, and stain-repellent surfaces. They were a "miracle" invention, making their way into cookware, clothing, carpets, firefighting foams, and food packaging. Today, they're found in lipsticks, foundations, dental floss, baby products, disposable coffee cups, and even menstrual products—things we use every single day, directly on our skin and inside our bodies.
What’s the real cost? Hormone disruption, infertility, developmental issues, weakened immune systems, liver damage, and cancer. PFAS exposure has been linked to a 40% decrease in sperm count worldwide, increased rates of thyroid disease, and shocking levels of toxicity in newborns. These chemicals pass through the placenta, meaning babies are already exposed before they even take their first breath. If you’ve ever used waterproof mascara, eaten fast food, or worn stain-resistant clothing, PFAS is inside your body right now.
Big corporations have known about the dangers for over 50 years. DuPont, 3M, and other chemical giants knew as early as the 1960s that PFAS accumulated in human blood, caused organ damage, and didn’t break down. Internal documents reveal that instead of warning the public, they covered it up, buried studies, and lied under oath to regulators. The result? Over 97% of humans now have PFAS chemicals in their bloodstream.
And it's not just inside us—it's in the water supply, the soil, the animals, even the rain. Studies have shown that PFAS contamination is so widespread that it’s been detected in Arctic polar bears and remote mountain streams, places where these chemicals were never used but still managed to infiltrate. There is no escaping them.
The companies responsible have faced lawsuits, but the settlements are a joke compared to the damage done. In 2017, DuPont and Chemours agreed to pay $671 million in a class-action lawsuit after PFAS contaminated drinking water in Ohio and West Virginia. But what is a few hundred million to billion-dollar corporations, when people are losing their lives to cancer and lifelong illnesses?
Governments are finally starting to ban certain types of PFAS, but corporations just tweak the formula and keep selling new versions under different names. The industry fights regulation at every step, funding fake science, lobbying lawmakers, and delaying action for as long as possible.
The worst part? There’s no way to completely remove PFAS from the body once it’s there. Your best defense is to stop exposure wherever possible. Ditch nonstick cookware, avoid fast-food packaging, check your cosmetics for PFAS ingredients, switch to PFAS-free dental floss, and filter your drinking water with a high-quality reverse osmosis system.
This isn’t some distant environmental issue—it’s inside your bloodstream, in your children, in the water you drink and the food you eat. Corporations knew and didn’t care. If they could get away with it for decades, what else are they still hiding?
