Polina KopyrinaBREAKING THE POVERTY MINDSET
You weren’t born with a poverty mindset—it was taught to you. It’s in the way you were told to save every penny, to always look for the cheapest option, to fear spending, to believe money is hard to get and easy to lose. It’s in the way you think about work, success, and even the people who have wealth. And unless you tear this programming apart, you will stay stuck in the same financial loop no matter how much you make.
Look at the decisions you make with money. Do you always pick the cheapest option? Do you buy low-quality things that break down, forcing you to spend again and again? That’s not “saving,” it’s wasting. Wealthy people don’t look for the cheapest; they look for the best value. They understand that money flows where quality exists.
And then there’s the fear of spending. You tell yourself you can’t afford things that would actually improve your life, whether it’s better food, an online course, or a tool that could save you hours of work. You see money leaving but never think about how it could return.
Money is energy—it moves. When you hoard it out of fear, you block its flow. You think you’re being responsible by saving everything, but in reality, you’re sending a message to your subconscious that money is scarce and hard to get. If you don’t trust money to come back, why would it?
Most people with a poverty mindset don’t even know why they want money. "For security" is the most common answer. But what does that even mean? What does security look like? More savings? Owning a home? Not having to work? If you don’t know the answer, how do you expect to create it?
And then there’s how you make money. If you believe hard work is the only way to earn, you are thinking like someone who will never have financial freedom. Money doesn’t come from working harder—it comes from working smarter, creating value, and leveraging skills, investments, or assets. Wealthy people do not exchange time for money. They build systems that generate money whether they’re working or not.
Maybe you’re the person who refuses to spend on anything “non-essential.” You won’t invest in education, coaching, or business tools because they cost too much. But you have no problem spending money on things that give you nothing in return—cheap entertainment, low-quality products, impulse buys. Then you wonder why your income never grows.
And let’s not ignore how you view rich people. If you believe that wealthy people are greedy, that they only got rich by exploiting others, that money is evil, why would money ever come to you? You can’t attract what you secretly despise.
The truth is, most people don’t want to break out of the poverty mindset. They say they do, but they don’t. It’s easier to blame the economy, their boss, the government, or bad luck. It’s easier to stay in the familiar struggle than to completely shift how they think about money.
The only way out? Start questioning everything you were taught about money. Every time you choose the cheapest option, hesitate to invest in yourself, or reject an opportunity because it feels “too expensive,” ask yourself: "Am I thinking like someone who will always be broke?"
Because that’s the real problem—poverty isn’t just financial. It’s mental. And until you break that mindset, it won’t matter how much you make—you’ll always feel like you don’t have enough.
