Anthony O'BrienTHE POWER IN OUR RESPONSES
Viktor E. Frankl, a wise psychiatrist who faced great challenges, once said something very powerful: "Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." This quote tells us about the real power we have in life – the power to choose how we respond to things that happen to us.
Life is full of events, both good and bad. But Frankl's words remind us that our true strength lies not in what happens, but in how we react to it. In that brief moment between what happens to us and how we react, we have a choice. We can get angry, or we can stay calm. We can give up, or we can keep trying. These choices shape who we are and lead us to grow.
Making these choices isn't always easy. It means we have to think about our reactions and sometimes choose a harder path. But when we do this, we grow stronger and more free. We start to control our lives, instead of letting things that happen control us.
Frankl's idea is a powerful reminder. We can't always choose what happens to us, but we can always choose how we respond. Each choice is a chance to grow and to be the person we want to be. This is how we find our freedom, not by changing what's around us, but by choosing our path forward.
