THE FOUR SLEEP STAGES Understanding the four stages of sleep can help us see how our bodies rest and restore during the night. First, there's Stage 1, the transition between being awake and falling asleep. It's a light sleep stage where you might feel drowsy. Next comes Stage 2, where our bodies start to relax more. Our heart rate slows, and our body temperature decreases. This stage prepares us for deep sleep. Then, we enter Stage 3, which is deep sleep. This is where our bodies do important work to rejuvenate and repair. Growth and repair of tissues happen during this time, and it's crucial for a healthy immune system. Finally, there's REM sleep, which stands for Rapid Eye Movement. It's the stage where most dreaming occurs. During REM sleep, our brains are quite active, but our bodies stay still. This stage is essential for learning, memory consolidation, and processing emotions. Each stage plays a unique role in helping our bodies and minds rest and function well. Moving through these stages several times during the night helps us wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. #sleep #rest #recovery #deeprest #rem #sleeppatterns #health #wellbeing #mindbody #recharge #nightcycle #dreaming #sleephealth #sleepstages #healing
