Ethical Quandary

Steps:

Dilemma Identification

Spot tricky situations that test your values and beliefs. Look at scenarios or stories that bring up moral conflicts or situations where interests clash.

Ethical Framework Analysis

Apply ethical frameworks (utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, etc.) to assess the dilemma from different moral perspectives, considering consequences, duties, and virtues.

Stakeholder Consideration

Identify and evaluate the stakeholders involved, understanding their perspectives, rights, and potential impacts resulting from different ethical choices.

Moral Reasoning

Use careful thinking to understand the ethics in the problem. Think about the values, rules, and duties that are involved in the situation.

Resolution and Justification

Come up with a good solution to the problem and explain why it's the right thing to do, based on thinking about the ethics and moral reasons.

Opportunity costs:

  • Moral Complexity: Dealing with tough moral problems might feel hard emotionally or mentally because of how important the decisions are.
  • Conflict of Values: Addressing ethical problems might make you question your own beliefs.

    Notes:

Ethical Reflection: Think about your own moral beliefs and biases. Reflecting on these helps you understand yourself better and make better ethical choices.

Consultation and Discussions: Talk to experts, mentors, or friends about ethics. Getting different viewpoints helps you understand things better and make wiser choices.

Ethical Role Play: Act out different sides of ethical problems to understand how different people see things and what the ethical effects might be.

Continuous Learning: Keep learning about ethical theories and real-life ethical issues by reading ethical books or studying cases.
